Why does she stand out?
Morrow aids the progression of African Americans in higher education in both her personal and professional life.
As president of ABWHE’s Chicago chapter, a voluntary role, she coordinates professional development activities, social events and networking opportunities for individuals with careers in post-secondary education.
ABWHE’s mission is to promote equity and advancement for African American women in higher education. The organization seeks to promote intellectual growth and highlight the accomplishments of African American educators while providing mentorship to youth.
Morrow often receives positive feedback from ABWHE event attendees and the response gives her a “sense of accomplishment.” She says attendees not only feel “empowered” to help themselves but other individuals as well.
Additionally, Morrow is the director of scholarships at Northeastern Illinois University; she is also active with other organizations including the Illinois Committee on Black Concerns in Higher Education and the University of Illinois at Chicago Black Alumni Advisory Council.
Morrow believes, “the sharing of one’s time and talent to volunteer is a meaningful way to impact the lives [of] individuals.”
