Dowager Daughters of Transcendence

Time and apathy have been unkind to the membership roster of Chapter #855 of The Dowager Daughters of Transcendence and the future of their sisterhood is at stake. No strangers to adversity, the DDT’s have fought racism, sexism and ageism but when cultural identity and community are threatened the DDT’s take action in this serious comedy about a serious mission to reclaim the “hood.”

Lake Meadows Art Fair

Talented student visual and performing artists will be presented at the 8th Annual Lake Meadows Art Fair as it returns to the Bronzeville community on Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17, 2012 at Lake Meadows Shopping Center, 35th Street and M.L. King Drive. Beginning at 11:00 a.m. and closing at 8:00 p.m. each day, this family-friendly outdoor event will showcase some of the country’s most creative and successful artisans, including painters, photographers, sculptors, jewelry and fashion designers, ceramicists, musicians and more.  Over 50 artists will participate in this year’s fair which is free, open to the public and provides free parking.

Live jazz takes center stage on Sunday beginning with The Ken Chaney Quartet. With Chaney on piano, the set will also feature Ari Brown on saxophone.  Joan Collaso will light up the stage on Sunday evening with her stellar jazz vocals.
